What is llms.txt and why does it matter for businesses?

The llms.txt file gives AI models a summary of your site: what it does, how to write it and what to watch out for.

llms.txt is a file published at a site's root that tells large language models (LLMs), in plain markdown, what the site is about and which pages matter. robots.txt tells bots “where you may go”; llms.txt says “here's what's here and what you should read”.

Why does it help?

When reading a page, AI assistants prefer clean text to HTML full of menus, cookie banners and ads. llms.txt presents the most important information in one place, short and linked. This increases the chance that the assistant produces an accurate, up-to-date summary of you.

Basic structure

# Business Name

> One-sentence summary: what you do and where you serve.

## Pages
- [Services](https://example.com/services): List of services offered
- [Contact](https://example.com/contact): Address, phone, opening hours

Things to keep in mind

  • Keep it short: a one-line description next to each link is enough.
  • Be consistent: address, phone and hours must match your website and Google Business Profile exactly.
  • Keep it current: old campaigns or closed branches should not remain in the file.
  • Markdown versions: publishing .md versions of important pages helps models read the content cleanly.

How it works on Kieosa

Every live business on Kieosa is added to the /llms.txt file automatically; the detailed text is published as business.md, with a separate link for each language version. When you update your details in the dashboard, the file is updated too.
