Name, address, phone consistency: why AI hesitates

How different phone numbers or addresses across sites make it harder for AI assistants to recommend your business — and how to fix it.

A long-established rule of local SEO has become even more important in the age of AI: NAP consistency (Name, Address, Phone). Before recommending your business, an assistant compares information from several sources. If the sources conflict, trust drops.

Typical conflicts

  • An old phone number on the website, a new one on Google Business Profile.
  • “St.” on one directory, “Street” on another and a different door number on a third.
  • “Open every day” on Instagram, “closed on Mondays” on the website.
  • The old address of a business that has moved still being online.

The effect on AI

An assistant either ignores conflicting information or may pick the wrong one. Sending a user to you at a time when you're closed means both a lost customer and a hit to your reputation.

Checklist

  1. Write the business name the same way everywhere (including suffixes, abbreviations and branch names).
  2. Choose one standard address format and use it everywhere.
  3. Write the phone number in international format: +90 224 000 00 00.
  4. When you change opening hours, update all profiles on the same day.
  5. Remove closed branches and old addresses, or mark them as “permanently closed”.

With Kieosa

A Kieosa profile acts as a single source of truth: you enter your details once, and JSON-LD, business.md, llms.txt and all language versions are generated from the same data. Location verification compares the map pin with your address and your Google Maps link.
